Spring/Summer Fashion Week 2009 @ the Spring Day 3 featuring Xixili

Here is the highlight of Fashion Week 2009 at the Spring, hands down. They featured a lingerie fashion show here in the Spring, Kuching. Everyone was excited for sure, especially the shutterbugs.

I’ve selected few to be posted in this entry, and as usual, I will post the rest in my facebook account. I must say, I find it hard to stop myself from firing at freely at this occassion. I almost went into full-time rambography mode. :P

Just like the previous shows, I opted for Av mode to shoot in this occasion, while maintaining AI Servo as the AF mode. However, I only found out my mistake for this shoot was to tone down the exposure metering to -0.7ev. The outcome came up mostly too underexposed to my liking. I should have checked the shots from time to time before getting carried firing away. My bad!

The environment lighting isn’t consistent as the main light source came from the sunlight outdoor. And that, is the unique design of the Spring shopping mall, which I believe helped in conserving the energy usage. I’m no engineer or architect, I’m saying that based on my own assumption and observation only. :) I might be wrong.

The other setback was my batteries for my speedlite. The power drained off pretty fast with the rate I was firing. So, occasionally, the flash didn’t fire due to the slower recycle time, when the battery was weak.

As much as I wanna complain, I’d still wish to congratulate the team who made this fashion week possible. It has been a wonderful 3-days-camp for me, personally. I enjoyed shooting. :P Kudos to everyone behind the show, and to the models too. Let’s just hope for more of this kind of fashion show in town in time to come.

I managed to capture some interesting frames in between the show, which I will post on a later date. Now, as usual, the rest of the photos will go to my Facebook, for the time being. Until I get Flickr pro account, I may need to get myself an alternative image host soon.

Part 2 continues with 9 months, and Elle, as well as hair show from Cutting edge.

#5 9 months

9 months is a brand for maternity wear. The models are required to put on the pad on their abdomens to fake pregnancy for the show.

The showcase for 9 months marked the end of afternoon session. There were about 2 hours of interval between end of this show and the next.

#6 Cutting Edge (Hair Show)

Cutting Edge, a local hair salon and academy, has decided to put up a hair show for the night. As a prelude to the main show, they brought out a male dancer to entertain the crowd. It was quite an idea to have this dancer to dancing around the opening period, whilst introducing the models to the runway. That, actually reminded me of Justin Timberlake being a performing guest for one of the Victoria’s Secret’s lingerie fashion show in New York some time ago.

I thought the dancer had put up quite a show, and am personally quite impressed with the expression he had.

#7 Elle

The last show of the day started around 8pm that day, featuring Elle. The show felt like quite a short one, lasting probably less than 15 minutes. Or maybe cos the hairshow was lengthy one? But for sure, it was quite a long day for model, and myself. I was in the mall since before the first show at 2pm, and stayed thru to the last show which ended at around 8:15pm or 8:20pm.

Oh, did i mention that all these shots were taken without firing my speedlite? I did some minor adjustment to the photos in Aperture 2.0, but only to the WB, lil bit of exposure and contrast. Very minor. 

 

Overall, I think it’s quite a decent performance by EOS 450D. Mind you, I was only using a EF 90-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens, of which the aperture floats between 4.5-5.6, not quite big enough to get brighter shots.

Fann Wong @ the Spring – Part 1

A week ago, Fann Wong and some other local celebrities, as well as an actor from Mainland China, came visiting Kuching. It was a promotional event for Astro’s Chinese New Year album 牛转乾坤, as well as for two of Astro’s latest drama showing on AEC and ShuangXing (双星). 

 

This is when I was being extremely absent minded. I packed all my gears into my camera bag, drove all the way to the Spring shopping mall, and only to realize that I left my CF card holders (with 3 CF cards in it) at home. I have no CF in my camera. I went to the battlefield with my firearms, minus the ammunition. How cleaver.

 

So, that is when Mike made me shoot using his company’s EOS 450D. Oh well, so I did him a favor, snapped few shots with EOS 450D. I mounted my EF 90-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM to that camera body, and start snapping away. It was quite crowded, so I couldn’t really move around, so I only took the shots from one angle that day. Here are the shots from that day.

I managed to get some firework shots from last night’s countdown at the Spring. It wasn’t best of firework shots, I am really not good at it. Anyone can share some tips? Also, it really makes a lot of difference if you have Ultra Wide Angle lens to shoot firework display, I shot with only Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8.
