Year in Review: 2010

It’s the last day of 2010, which means it’s time for year in review yet again! Looking back at the resolutions I set for 2010, which I did in this entry.

I actually didn’t list out my personal resolution back then! Well, in terms of gears, I think I have surpassed the target I set. A year ago, I set sight of acquiring 3 lenses:

  • Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM;
  • Tokina Pro 116 ATX 11-16mm f/2.8; and
  • Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM

I didn’t all three of those, but I scored 2 out of 3. I managed to add a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM, and a Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM (in place of Tokina Pro 116 ATX 11-16mm f/2.8). Like I said in the entry, it would be a bonus, if I managed to get in year 2010. I’ll probably push this target further till maybe next year or 2012.

2010, wasn’t an easy time for me personally. There were definitely ups and downs, but comparing to the year before, things were so much better in 2010.

Here are some of the notable highlights in 2010:

1) Go Bald 2010: In May 2010, I got myself involved in the Go Bald 2010 campaign, as the project coordinator, and yes, I got my head shaved.

Here are some photos from the press conference back in April 2010:

2) My short stint in a local press firm, which amazingly brushed up my skill with layout software for publications. I hope that skill comes handy someday.

3) Attended the first WPPM Conference 2010, and met a bunch of cool people there.

4) And recently, I got myself into another publication project. This one comes in combination of both photography and compiling for this publication. You may find my name among the credits in this publication, which is available in Kuching only.

5) Launching the FB page for my photography career, with that, I’ve decided to push it to a while new level. This will have my full focus for the coming year in 2011. In case you’ve missed it, here’s the URL to my FB page: www.facebook.com/allenangphotography. Please click the ‘like’ button, and share it with your friends. Your supports are truly appreciated.

6) Here’s a bit more on my personal achievement: I somehow managed to bring my weight down by as much as 6kg. My weight current stays stagnant, but I am looking forward to shed off few more pounds next year.

I’ll be ending year 2010 with another assignment tonight, covering a countdown party in town. And starting the new year with a wedding assignment as early as 2nd January. I’ll take that as a sign of ending the year on a high, and ushering the new year with a positive start.

Happy New Year to you all!! I’ll see you all in year 2011. Cheers!

p/s: Pardon the inconsistency with the images sizes, as the older images were from previous theme. I only blow up the size to 900 pixel wide after I switch to the new theme recently.

Coming Soon…

This blog has been in hiatus for considerably long period, and it seriously lacks update. Well, that’s all put to the past now. I’ve got something exciting lined up soon. Do stay tuned!

Meanwhile, I’ll fill up the blog with filler posts. Come back for special announcement on 15.11.2010!

Coming Soon

Recharged, Refreshed & Rejuvenate!

The prelude of an inspirational weekend

WPPM Conference 2010

WPPM Conference 2010

I have adopted a bad habit of not updating my blog regularly of late. It’s usually the same old reasons — ‘I’m really busy’, ‘I haven’t got the time’. Do pardon my inactivity for the past couple of months.

During my hiatus, I have planned to revamp, and re-launch my website. Also, I was working on the revision on my rate for my photography services.

Coming back from the hiatus, I have a lot to share, particularly my personal viewpoint from the first WPPM conference, which happened last weekend. It was my first participation in any photography-related conference, or workshop of this scale.

Here’s a quick recap on what WPPM had lined up for the delegates that weekend:

  1. WPPM Masterclass – Lito Sy (13 August 2010)
  2. Canon Night 2010 for all delegates – 13 August 2010 @ Prince Hotel, Kuala Lumpur
  3. WPPM platform conference @ Berjaya Time Square Hotel – 14 August 2010
  4. WPPM main conference @ Berjaya Time Square Hotel – 15 August 2010
  5. Leica appreciation night @ Delicious Café – 15 August 2010
  6. WPPM Masterclass – Jerry Ghinosis (16 August 2010)

Up next, WPPM Conference 2010, from my point of view.

Upgrading in Progress

If you hadn’t noticed, allenang.com has gone into a hiatus status for about a month. There are so many things going on at the back end, as I am implementing phase-by-phase upgrade. I have managed to upgraded my work machine’s internal hard disk to 500GB capacity, (YES! More storage space! Finally!) and also upgraded my Mac OS to Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.4).

On other note, I’ve also loaded new software to my machine here — Aperture 3.0, Final Cut Express 4, Adobe CS5 (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and After Effect). I also had to deal and source with printing suppliers, and also exploring on long term solution for my packaging, and branding. That, is a whole lot of work! I really hope I can buy more time. Seriously!

So, my next move, will be website related, hence, there may be glitch or inconsistency when it comes to the blog’s theme. If that ever happens, it’s probably me tweaking the website.

Till next time, cheers!

Tea time

Another filler entry to my blog.  I’m still trying the caption style within the images. This image was shot with 50mm f/1.8, with ambiance lighting, with the aperture opened at maximum aperture. On the other hand, I have ordered new item from Shashinki.com, yet again.

This time round, I decided to expand on the wireless flash triggers. I have lost my previous one, a YingHe Cactus which is similar to this Phottix Tetra, while shooting one of my recent assignments. Instead of getting a replacement in Phottix Tetra, I have ordered Phottix Aster, 1 transmitter 3 receiver. The Cactus PV-4′s transmitter is somewhat compatible with the Phorrix Aster. However, I was not able to define which channel to trigger from the Cactus transmitter (NOT Phottix Aster’s).

While searching for this model, I came upon this new wireless trigger by Phottix. It is said that this model is compatible with Pocketwizard Plus II 433 Mhz. This model is Phottix Atlas Transceiver, which cost RM355.00 per unit at Shashinki.com. However, it’s cheaper to order 3 units a bundle per order at only RM1,015.00, which is about RM338.33 per unit.

I’m definitely interested to order a set of Phottix Atlas. It is a cheaper alternative to Pocket Wizard. No doubt about it.

I shall take that into serious consideration.
