The Star is now MYR1.20 in Sarawak

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

I got this from the news stand today! The Star newspaper is now selling at MYR1.20 per copy.

The Star - SARAWAK RM1.20

The Star - SARAWAK RM1.20

Which is great news for me! I got used to reading The Star since my days in Malacca. And when I first moved back from Peninsular, I had to stop reading The Star, as I find it rather expensive to subscribe the newspaper to. It was then RM1.50, and eventually increasing up to RM1.80 per copy. But today, we can read The Star for only RM1.20 per copy!

The Star Sarawak Edition will be launching at the Spring this weekend. I think it’s on the 7th March 2010. AXN will be conducting the casting for The Amazing Race Asia audition for Season 4 at the Spring on the 6th March. Wanna try for a run-in for the famous reality race show?

CNY ’10: Day 1

A little recap on how my Chinese New Year was like for year 2010. It’s pretty much a routined day, just like the previous years.

Coincidentally, Chinese New Year Day 1 falls on the same day as Valentine’s Day this year. So, at night, you’d see couples patronizing restaurants in town, enjoying buffet dinner, which could cost as much as MYR128++ (that’s the price listed in Pullman’s cafe/restaurant). And most likely, you’d see a bouquet, if not a stalk of rose, in the girls’ hands.

Here’s a gallery for your ease of browsing through the photos.

Ten Years After

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

It’s been quite a busy Chinese New Year this year. After leaving high school for a decade. We’ve decided to come up with a gathering of a larger scale. Something big. It was quite a tough task to make this happen, with most of the people in Kuching busy with their own stuff and work, and the organizer isn’t actually based in Kuching. Nevertheless, kudos to Hui-Nee whom made this possible. :) And thanks to those who turned up that night. There was a total of 27 people turned up, not exactly full attendance. But, it was well beyond expectation.

It was nice to meet you all again. We should do this again soon. :) And, hopefully, more can turn up to this gathering. Let’s make it a better one next time! :)

Image note: A group photo of us, ten years after leaving the school. Take 1, 2 and 3. And I wish I have a wider lens. :P It was even harder to take this shot, with my faulty Speedlite. I’ve sent it for repair yesterday.

New Year Resolution 2010

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Looking back to the year 2009. It was quite a bad year, overall. Some unhappy events came into the mix, and there were more downs than ups throughout the year. And I were to look back to the resolution I set for year 2009, I’m pretty sure I have failed badly in trying to achieve all of them.

It was disappointing.

Nevertheless, we still have to move on from 2009, and usher in the new year – 2010. This time round, I wouldn’t publish my personal resolution here. Instead, I am publishing my photography wishlist here. It’s more of a target list for 2010. I’m hoping to acquire specifically these gears in year 2010:

  • Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM
  • Tokina Pro 116 ATX 11-16mm f/2.8
  • Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM (This is a bonus if I can get it in 2010)

Other than the lenses, I hope to add at least one more speedlite to my arsenal, along with light stands and umbrella. For the lens, I don’t mind if the lenses were used lens (aka 2nd hand) before. As long as it’s in good condition, I don’t mind buying it, on a reasonable price.

So, please feel free to contact me if you have a deal for the above mentioned lenses. The hunt will start the EF 70-200mm f/4L (USED or NEW). If you have friends, or even yourself, who wants to sell their gears, please feel free to drop me a message and let me know.

I’ll leave Tokina to the 2nd half of 2010, and same goes for Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM.

Last but not the least, I hope to produce more inspiring photos, and bring myself up another level in photography. I’ve gotta keep pushing myself. Cheers!

Final Entry for Year 2009

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

It’s the last day of year 2009 now, at the time of writing, we’re less than 4 hours away from year 2010.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to draft a ‘Year in Review’ entry before the year ends. Well, let’s make it a fixed entry after we usher in the new year. I’ve lined up the ‘New Year Resolution’ right after this entry. :) So, That entry is probably visible tomorrow.

To sign off the year, I’m posting this snap shot I took on the Christmas eve. I was wandering around the city area, hoping to look for more glitters and lights on the street. Well, the fact is, Kuching isn’t as nicely decorated as I thought it would be. Perhaps I really need to fly into the Lion City next year.

It’s been crazy few weeks for me, with all the workload piling on me lately. On top of that, I was down with illness. Somehow I was down with fever, and the temperature went as high as 39.4ºC. Goodness, it was a horrible experience. >.<

Thank God, it’s all over now. I’ve recovered from fever, but I’m still dealing with the cough now. I hope I’ll recover to 100% soon.

I’m posting an accidental panning trial I did couple week ago. The effect was quite cool. Hehe, with all the street light lighting up the background. I wonder if it’s possible to do such shot in Kuching or not.
